We took a bus tour to Chichen Itza (Mayan Ruins) which was a 2 1/2 hour bus ride to get there.
Chichen Itza was one of the largest Maya cities and the layout developed between AD 900 and 1050.
This is Castillo Temple.
Cass and Dylan are standing in the Great Ball Court which is the largest and best preserved. They played Mesoamerican ball which was a sport with ritual associations played since 1,400 B.C. The object of the game was to get a solid rubber ball (weighing 9 lbs.) into a hoop only using their hips, although some versions allowed the use of forearms and rackets. Then there was often a human sacrifice at the end of the game. Sounds like a great game!!

A natural sinkhole which is called a cenote. It is also believed they would do human sacrifices during drought since there was not enough food or water for everyone.
