Homemade Bacon

Last weekend we went to Bichelmeyer Meats and Michael bought a pork belly so he could make homemade bacon.

First he took the skin off the pork belly....

and we tried to make pork rinds.  We had the wrong kind of oil so it did not work that well.

Then he cured the pork belly for seven days.

He smoked it and then we baked it this morning.

WOW!  Absolutely delicious!!  This was our breakfast this morning.  We had churro pancakes, our yummy homemade bacon and cream cheese scrambled eggs.

Michael will definitely be buying another pork belly.  BEST BACON EVER!

Cooper's Hawk Winery

Tonight we celebrated Katie's 40th birthday at Cooper's Hawk Winery at the Plaza.  The wine and the food was outstanding.

Katie's friends all came together to celebrate the special event!

Birthday girl with her birthday dessert.

Make a wish!  She gave me a bite of the chocolate truffle and it was one of the best truffles I have ever had.  They sold them downstairs and I almost bought one.

Happy Birthday Katie

Bye Bye Spring Break

Spring break flew by!! Sorry Mason that spring break started off with snow and ended with snow!

I think he is ready for warmer weather also.

OK! This was our third total dive/hole in the wall place that we enjoyed this week.  It was called Pepe's Carnitas and I would have NEVER ever have gone inside but we saw an article in the Kansas City Star about it so we tried it. When we walked in there was a huge line with all of the locals so I knew it had to be good. Also, everyone else spoke spanish and we did not!!

HOLY COW!!! IT WAS DELICIOUS!  There was no menu so we had to act like we knew what we were doing. We ordered one pound carnitas and warm tortillas and salsa. YUMMY!

Cass and I purchased her prom dress but no pictures!!

The Arnott family did NOT enjoy basketball today.

Just finished making apple cinnamon dog treats and now I need to get mentally prepared for a two day training. Bye Bye spring break!!

Howl at the Moon

Sheila won a party at Howl at the Moon and she was nice enough to invite Michael and I.  Howl at the Moon is a dueling piano bar and it was lots of fun.

Sheila and her lighter app.

Me, Pete and Michael

Oh..... Sheila!!

Then they announced that is was some guys birthday and he was instructed to pick someone he had never met before to come on stage with him.  Lucky me!!!!!!!!!!!  We had to do "Head, shoulders, knees and toes" song and then it changed to "head, shoulders, boobs and butt".  It was funny because some guy in the audience yelled "that's not fair, she knows that song".  I have only done it a thousand  times.  (except for the boobs and butt part)  Yes, Michael has a video of this!

Then the guy playing the piano asked for a back rub so that is what I am doing in this picture.

Thanks Sheila for inviting us!  We had lots of fun!

Record Bar

Finally!! We have been trying to use our groupon for six to eat at The Record Bar for months.

The menus were tucked away in album covers.

The food was actually pretty good but I enjoyed just getting together.

Now for my first day of spring cocktail... bubbly moscato mojito...delightful!!

Money Museum and LC's BBQ

Today we stopped at the money museum at the Federal Reserve Bank on our way to eat bbq.

This was our first time visiting the museum.

Coins during the time of President Washington, President Adams and President Jefferson. They had coins from each presidency.  My dad would have loved seeing all of these old coins.

I wish I had this gold bar!!

My kids are worth a lot of money:)

Playing around with Ben!

I also wish I had $40 million.

Cass designing her own money.

Beautiful

Cass and Dylan with their bag of shredded money!

This is the view when you walk out of the Federal Reserve Bank.

Lunch was at LC 's BBQ and it was good but it was also another dive. We have been trying to branch out these last two days:)

Beef, pork and sausage

We also put up our NCAA tournament brackets!  Dylan could not find tape so he used a bandaid.  Thank goodness it was not a used one.

I love Spring Break!!

A Tasty Tuesday

This morning Dylan got up at 8:30am and helped me make maple cinnamon rolls. They were so good and the recipe did not have yeast in it so this will probably be my go-to fast cinnamon roll recipe.

Lots of butter!

Michael took us out to lunch to a place called Peter May's House of Kielbasa (established in 1929). It definitely was a hole in the wall and it was not in a very lovely neighborhood.

I am not a huge fan of polish sausage but even I enjoyed it.

It was a yummy day!!

St. Patrick's Day

We started off the day by going to Saints Pub for a breakfast buffet.

We got there right when it opened at nine and we were the first ones in line for the buffet.

Ahhhh!!  Cass had to go get a temporary crown put on and she was not thrilled.

After the dentist, I took the kids to go see Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

Michael had to work all day but took me out tonight to go have a green beverage.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Snow this Morning, Gone this Afternoon

Snow?!?! Seriously?!? Mason decided to sprint back inside the house.

This afternoon we went to the Shawnee St. Patrick's Day Parade and it was 34 degrees instead of 75 like yesterday.

Beginning of the parade

I just realized we missed the duck race at 4:30 today.  Maybe next year!

I love watching the Shriners drive their little cars.

Happy one year anniversary at Skyzone Cass!  We are proud of all your hard work.  Way to go!

I am so glad the snow is gone and now it is movie time.
