What do you do when you only have one day in San Francisco?? Well, this is what we had time for.
The first thing we did was take the BART (bay area rapid transit) into San Francisco and then hopped on a street car.
WOW! Look at all the electricity this city uses.
Hello San Francisco!
Then we walked around Fishermans Wharf.
We also took a pedicab around Fishermans Wharf.
That was fun but he sure had to work hard for his money.
A very satisfying mid morning break...Irish Coffee at the Buena Vista. They have been using the same recipe since 1952.
My only picture of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Lombard Street
Lombard street is the famous street that is a steep, one block section with eight hairpin turns.
Another little snack was some sourdough bread from Boudin Sourdough. They have been making sourdough bread since 1849.
They made sourdough bread in all shapes and sizes.
Delicious!
Then off we went on the Alcatraz Clipper to Alcatraz Island.
Open showers for the prisoners
The small prison cells with the toilet right behind the bed.
Solitary confinement
The view of San Francisco from Alcatraz Island.
This is a hole one of the three prisoners escaped from in 1962. They used an inflatable raft made out of raincoats and to this day they do not know if they survived or died in the attempt.
Lookout tower
We had a late lunch at The Stinking Rose (the garlic restaurant)
They use garlic as an ingredient for every one of their dishes.
It has the world's longest braid of garlic that winds its way throughout the whole restaurant.
Chinatown
Cable Car Museum
This was running all the cable cars.
Off to ride a cable car!! We stood on the side and I was praying I wouldn't fall off.
Pretty steep hills
The cable car was a lot of fun and I was thankful we could take a break from walking.
Thank goodness we had this nice big tub in our hotel room because I sure did need this after our busy day!!
What a fantastic weekend get away!!
